Biography

Being raised in Tunisia, known to be the first established democracy of the Arab World, and having witnessed discrimination and oppression on several occasions beforehand, I grew up being passionate about social justice, global health and education.

After pursuing a career in financial engineering for about a year and as I was gaining more insights about the outside world and witnessing the increasingly overwhelming presence of computers in every facet of business, I understood that deep expertise in this dynamic and rapidly growing technology is crucial in developing cutting-edge solutions that address today’s challenges. I decided to switch careers to pursue a Bachelor's degree (BSc) in Computer Science at California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo with the will and determination to solve real-world problems and make the world a better place.

As an international college student, my involvement within the institutions I attended in the United States has helped me encounter situations that forced me to step out of my comfort zone. Being able to recover from difficulties and adapt well in the face of adversity and stress has become second nature to me. Working in an environment where people come from different parts of the world has raised my awareness about both global differences and similarities. I started to assimilate certain nuances and anticipate potential misunderstandings during cross-cultural engagements that occurred on official meetings with some of the highest ranking officials of the university or even during casual gatherings between friends.

Having had the opportunity to contribute to students' success and give back to the community whether by being an on-campus math tutor or by joining student leadership organizations such as The President's Ambassador program or by sitting on one of the technical committees of the college, which helped faculty, staff and students better manage their digital world, always reminds me of how far I have come since I have started this journey. When fully immersed in a different culture surrounded by unfamiliar faces, we are left with no choice but to acquire a certain level of self-awareness that helps us further develop our intuition and certainly comes in handy when we have to make important decisions.

All these experiences have shaped my character and made me the person I am today. As I am moving along this journey, I am always looking for new opportunities to expand my knowledge and collaborate with like-minded individuals.
